Pit Wheel

A Recent new addition in the village,This is a Pit Head Wheel, originally used to raise and lower cages containing coal miners to the coal seams many hundreds of feet below ground.Nowadays the coal mines have long gone, and these replicas have been erected in celebration of the Heritage of coal mining in the Durham coalfield, many neighbouring villages have had these placed prominently over the years, however this one at “Home” celebrates the heritage of 140 years of coal mining when the village “Pit” was closed in 1962. iso 200 1/60th f11pit-wheel
